2027 Quarters: The Five Youth Sports Quarter Designs

Final design, announced 26 October 2026

The 2027 quarters, the first five Youth Sports Quarters, honor baseball, golf, soccer, softball and snowboarding. The U.S. Mint published the final designs on 26 October 2026. Each pairs one sport with a new portrait of George Washington, and release dates have not been announced yet.

All five coins, and all 20 Youth Sports Quarters through 2030, share one new portrait of George Washington: GW-01, which shows him in civilian attire at a three-quarter angle with his head lifted. It was the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee's choice; the Commission of Fine Arts had preferred a portrait of Washington in uniform. More on the obverse.

Which 2027 quarter designs were chosen

The U.S. Mint prepared 47 candidate reverse designs for the five sports. Two federal panels reviewed them in February 2026 and each recommended one per sport. The Treasury Secretary made the final choices, and the Mint published them on 26 October 2026. The Mint's announcement does not give the design codes; this site matched each finished design to its candidate line art in the panels' public portfolios.

How the panels fared

Counting the Washington portrait, the CCAC's recommendation was used for five of the six designs on the 2027 quarters. The two panels were advisers only; the law leaves the decision to the Treasury Secretary.

How the designs were reviewed

The Commission of Fine Arts saw the candidates on 19 February 2026 and the CCAC on 24 February 2026, both by videoconference. The CCAC scores every candidate: each of its eleven members gives a design 0, 1, 2 or 3 points, so 33 is the maximum, and the committee then votes on motions. Its members debated whether each design showed the sport's movement accurately, and spent time on the child's golf swing in particular. The CFA does not score. It names one design per sport and explains its reasons in a letter to the Mint Director.

What happens next

The designs are settled. Still to come from the U.S. Mint: a release date for each coin, the order the five come out, mintages, and products beyond the 2027 Proof Set, which already lists the 2027 Youth Sports Quarters. The release dates page tracks each announcement, and the list of all 20 sports shows what follows in 2028, 2029 and 2030.
