2027 Soccer Quarter
Final design, announced 26 October 2026
The 2027 soccer quarter is one of the first five Youth Sports Quarters. A young player throws both arms up in celebration beside an oversized soccer ball that fills much of the left side. The U.S. Mint published the final design on 26 October 2026; it matches candidate SOCC-01 in the review panels' portfolios. Its release date has not been announced.
The soccer quarter design
A young player throws both arms up in celebration beside an oversized soccer ball that fills much of the left side. SOCCER arcs across the top.
Soccer is the one 2027 sport where the Commission of Fine Arts' choice beat the CCAC's, and it beat the highest-scoring design of the whole review to do it.
The front of the coin carries the new George Washington portrait shared by all 20 Youth Sports Quarters. See the obverse. The U.S. Mint had not published designer and sculptor credits as of 31 October 2026.
How the design was chosen
| Candidate designs | 9 (SOCC-01 to SOCC-10 (no SOCC-04)) |
|---|---|
| CCAC recommendation | SOCC-07, 28 of 33 points: the highest score of any youth sports design at the meeting. Meeting of 24 February 2026. |
| CFA recommendation | Its reverse #1, chosen for its expressive composition depicting the raw emotion of a winning moment. Meeting of 19 February 2026. |
| Final design | Matches SOCC-01 (CFA pick) |
| Final design published | 26 October 2026, by the U.S. Mint, without design codes |
SOCC-07, the CCAC's pick, scored 28 of 33, the highest of any youth sports design. The CFA preferred its design #1 for an expressive composition showing the raw emotion of a winning moment, and that is the design on the coin: SOCC-01.
The CFA asked for two changes: a slightly smaller word Soccer, and the number 47 on the player's jersey in honor of the president. The Mint's image shows a plain shirt with no number.
The Secretary chose the CFA's pick over the CCAC's SOCC-07, which had the highest score of the review. The number 47 the CFA asked for is not on the player's shirt in the Mint's image.
