2027 Softball Quarter
Final design, announced 26 October 2026
The 2027 softball quarter is one of the first five Youth Sports Quarters. A batter swings at an incoming pitch with a crouching catcher behind, and the date 2027 is set into home plate beneath the players. The U.S. Mint published the final design on 26 October 2026; it matches candidate SOFT-04A in the review panels' portfolios. Its release date has not been announced.

The softball quarter design
A batter swings at an incoming pitch with a crouching catcher behind, and the date 2027 is set into home plate beneath the players. SOFTBALL runs along the bottom rim.
The CFA recommended its softball design partly for its likeness to the baseball design, and the two finished coins do share a batter, a crouching catcher and home plate.
The front of the coin carries the new George Washington portrait shared by all 20 Youth Sports Quarters. See the obverse. The U.S. Mint had not published designer and sculptor credits as of 31 October 2026.
How the design was chosen
| Candidate designs | 10 (SOFT-01 to SOFT-09, plus a variant SOFT-04A) |
|---|---|
| CCAC recommendation | SOFT-04A, 21 of 33 points: highest score in the portfolio. Meeting of 24 February 2026. |
| CFA recommendation | Its reverse #4, chosen for its active composition and general similarity to the recommended baseball design. Meeting of 19 February 2026. |
| Final design | Matches SOFT-04A (CCAC pick) |
| Final design published | 26 October 2026, by the U.S. Mint, without design codes |
The CCAC's pick, SOFT-04A, is a variant of design 4 and scored 21 of 33. The CFA recommended its design #4 for its active composition and its likeness to the baseball design, and asked for the home plate to be removed.
The finished coin matches SOFT-04A, and the home plate stayed, now carrying the date 2027.
The coin matches SOFT-04A, the CCAC's pick, and it keeps the home plate the CFA had asked the Mint to remove.
