Youth Sports Quarters FAQ
Short answers to the questions people ask most about the 2027 to 2030 Youth Sports Quarters. Each answer reflects the public record as of 31 October 2026, and the pages linked below have the detail and the sources.
The series
- What are the Youth Sports Quarters?
- A U.S. Mint quarter series that runs from 2027 through 2030. Each coin's reverse shows one sport played by American youth, five new designs a year. Congress created it in Public Law 116-330, the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act.
- What is the Youth Sports Coin Collection?
- The U.S. Mint's name for the whole program, announced on 26 October 2026: the 20 Youth Sports Quarters plus four Paralympic sports half dollars, one a year from 2027 to 2030.
- How many Youth Sports Quarters will there be?
- 20: five a year for four years. The U.S. Mint named all 20 sports on 26 October 2026.
- What sports are on the 2027 quarters?
- Baseball, golf, soccer, softball and snowboarding.
- What sports will be on the 2028 quarters?
- American football, swimming, gymnastics, lacrosse, and track and field. The 2028 designs have not been chosen yet.
- What sports come in 2029 and 2030?
- 2029: basketball, wrestling, tennis, cheerleading and karate. 2030: figure skating, skiing, skateboarding, volleyball and ice hockey.
- Who chooses the sports?
- The Treasury Secretary, after outreach and consultation with the public. The U.S. Mint built a list of 58 candidate sports and ran a public survey on it in January and February 2025.
- Can I still vote for a sport?
- No. The only public survey closed on 20 February 2025, and all 20 sports have now been chosen.
The designs
- Are the 2027 designs final?
- Yes. The U.S. Mint published the final 2027 designs on 26 October 2026. They match the candidates BASE-01, GOLF-07, SOCC-01, SOFT-04A and SNOW-03, with Washington portrait GW-01 on the front (codes from the review panels' portfolios; the Mint's announcement does not use them).
- Who is on the front of the Youth Sports Quarters?
- George Washington, in a new portrait created for the program: design GW-01, Washington in civilian attire at a three-quarter angle, the CCAC's recommendation.
- Will every Youth Sports Quarter have the same front?
- Yes. GW-01 is the obverse for all 20 coins, 2027 to 2030, unlike the 2026 quarters, which each had their own obverse.
- Does the soccer quarter have the number 47 on it?
- No. The Commission of Fine Arts asked for the number 47 on the jersey of its preferred soccer design, in honor of the president. That design was chosen, but the Mint's final image shows a plain shirt.
- Which panel's picks were used?
- The CCAC's for the Washington portrait, golf and softball; the CFA's for soccer; and the shared pick for baseball and snowboarding. On the half dollar, the Kennedy portrait was the CFA's pick and the wheelchair basketball reverse was the CCAC's.
